Lagunitas has been selling these badass Butterfly Bottle Openers for a while. So we helped them create these videos to teach you how to wield the things without spillin’ your beer (or makin’ a fool of yourself). Look for more very soon.
Really proud to have worked on such an important cause as The Meth Project with the team at Organic SF. And so fortunate to have had the phenomenal talent, Darren Aronofsky actually direct spots I’ve written. Still cannot believe it.
Any SF ad nerd can tell you how important Howard Gossage was to the local ad scene and the industry at large. Probably they can even point to The Book of Gossage on their bookshelf. But documentarian/Director Ashley Pollak drops a few choice tibits that’ll make you realize just how important he was to the whole world…
“Gossage had managed to save the Grand Canyon from being flooded for profit, helped establish Friends of the Earth, discovered Marshal McLuhan – an obscure Canadian academic who thought up the Internet – and inadvertently caused the military invasion of a small Caribbean island.”
This trailer—at seven minutes—is a MiniDoc in and of itself. Which only makes me more excited to see the full flick. And hearing that Gossage‘s daughter, Sarah, is the Executive Producer doesn’t hurt things either. (via SFE and AdRants)
I’ve spent many years in San Franisco‘s Ad Ghetto (loosely based around the upper part of Battery St.) and even more in Grumpy’s. Longtime residents draftFCB and newcomers EVB have joined forces to celebrate the ‘hood and “bring some life” back to the area. They’ve scored The Dodos and Dan the Automator to help ‘em do it. An effort I applaud, as it’s much needed.
The party hits at 4 pm on John Maher St, that little walkway running between Battery / Front and Union / Green [map].
On the hush hush, before Friday night’s Troubador gig, Neon Indian stopped by the ad agency MSN (UK) named one of the world’s 10 coolest spaces, TBWA \ Chiat \ Day LA. The article mentions their indoor trees, basketball court and more, but breezes through what would make me actually want to live and work in LA: the agency hosts live concerts. They’ve had the The Morning Benders, Edward Sharpe, Generationals and tons more stop by for intimate, on-the-down-low shows. Not bad. At least where I’m freelancing right now this guy appears on Fridays. [Thanks, Christina]
If you haven’t already grabbed Neon Indian‘s latest, you need to snag it on iTunes:
Sure, staying above the one-and-only tap of Sixpoint’s John Dory Oyster Stout is nice. And the WWI aesthetic is not only a great vibe but a comfy one, too. It’s the little bits of personality sprinkled about that speak to the ad nerd in me. I love it when brands take the time to weave themselves throughout the experience in a fun way. ‘Cuz in the end, that’s branding.
A subtle hint on the ironing board and a kind affirmation on the hanger for afterwards.
Let’s see, the last Old Spice Guy had a moustache on a boat. Now the new guy is a boat captain with a beard. Fingers crossed they’ll release a scented moustache wax / upper-lip antiperspirant.
San Francisco‘s very own Jeremy Fish recently contributed to the ABSOLUT BLANK series. Other artists include Sam Flores, Morning Breath, Thomas Doyle, and more. See them all here.
