While Ron Swanson‘s ‘stache is magnificent in all its Flanders-ishness, a handlebar’s a handlebar. Pretty tough to beat. Proven by this latest Heineken spot:
While this has nothing on the recent, epic Hahn SuperDry commercial, it does have Van Damme‘s mullet. And weird Mom Jeans. And for some reason, Antonio Banderas‘ accent. Enjoy. (Thanks, Matt!)
To help promote Portugal brewery Sagres‘ new Preta Chocolate Stout, their digital agency Grand Union Portugal came up with what they thought was a fitting launchpad for a chocolate beer: a chocolate webpage. Duh.
So they hired the Artistic Director of the Óbidos International Chocolate Festival to lead the sculpting. Creating not just a flat “web page”, but going full boar creating all the buttons, number tiles for the loading screen (which only added to the heavy load time, IMO), sliding modules, and more. Then they shot it all and used it as the basis for the website.
Cool. And no doubt delicious. But a long climb up the mountain for a small sip of cocoa. Then again, I am sharing it. And you are reading this. So, guess it worked. A sia saide!
This brings up a terrific question: Why don’t you eat cats?
Bacon comes from an animal half as cute. Shouldn’t cats be twice as delicious?
There’s even a festival devoted entirely to eating cats Festival Gastronomico del Gato every September in Peru. Alas, this is not an ad for said fest. Nor does the Starter Guide set you down the path to becoming a feline feast fancier. It’s actually some sort of meatless propaganda. Bummer. Now it’s got me rethinking other animals, too. Like a grilled Panda Cow or Poodle-Bison burger. Mmm.
Trippy couple of days. First multiplying sheep. Now bar graphs and pie charts exploding off the page into something like a Pink Floyd LP cover on peyote.
Created by design and live-action production company Süperfad and directed by Nando Costa,
this video “explores the connections between science, mathematics and music“. Music is by World Gang, a side-project of Modest Mouse‘s Jeremiah Green and Plastiq PhantomDarrin Wiener. Nando and Jeremiah have a previous relationship, as he shot Modest Mouse “Whale Song” video.
The unnecessarily umlauted Süperfad is on a roll as of late. Just the other day they released their HTML5 and WebGL -powered Global Traffic Visualizer. Check out the vid:
Gawker just did a mention on Lonely Island becoming Creative Directors for Rökk Vodka. But the word on their hire hit streets last November along with this “viral” video starring Nicky Whelon. Maybe no one believed them ‘cuz of the name? Coming from Andy Samberg and crew, however necessary a Swedish umlaut is, it still seems like a fake product.
Remember the Coors Light ads about their Freaky Freezy -like cans? Or seen any of the other Big Beer ads about the many unnecessary “advancements” in drinking technology? Those are the reasons these Breckenridge Brewery spots were made. Just had to be done. Cheers to Cultivator Advertising & Design in Denver.
Today is International (er, –Galactic?) Star Wars Day. What better way to celebrate than with new-ish spots for LEGO Star Wars III? Killer work by the same peeps who did the end-card animations for our ampmSecret Menu spots, The Core LA.

THE FÖRCE IS STRONG WITH THIS LIST
Can you believe it’s been a whole year since the since last May the 4th? Here’s a handy look back at everything you May’ve missed (see what I did there). Geek out with the Ümlaut:
More rad than the fact that this guy was lucky enough to jump over and capture an avalanche with his helmet cam? How stoked he is. I love it. Like the happiest muppet on earth. (Thanks, Mel)
Matt Damon dons a fake moustache in this fun little fake-real car commercial for Cars 2 (via AdFreak). Of course it’s not Stu Stubin‘s car lot located in Emeryville, it’s Pixar. But whether you call the phone number at the end or catch the “secret” interruption, you’ll find the following transmission (no pun intended) …
THE HIDDEN MESSAGE:
That jump cut at the end had a heat-vision view of Finn McMissile, the new Cars 2 character voiced by Michael Caine, and a URL. The site redirects to the awesome footage below…
Congrats to our team from Ogilvy and at jumP LA on being a contender for an OBIE, advertising’s oldest award show. Out of 66 other agencies, it’s the only Ogilvy entrant to make it this year.
