SF Beer Week: Lagunitas Collaboration Brew “San Francisco Fusion”

I was lucky enough to be there for this magical collaboration. Here’s the scoop.

For the first San Francisco Beer Week Lagunitas held a Beer Circus (which they now hold as a standalone event). This year, they wanted to do something different. So they invited a ton of Bay Area publicans out to help create a limited-release brew, just for SF Beer Week. How limited? About 80 kegs worth. “And maybe just one bottle” just to make it stoopidly limited. (Yes, they were joking. Probably.)

This is Matt “Beards In A Box” Wilson. Yes, he’s holding up a bag of beard. Though absent from Petaluma Whiskerino for the last couple years, he’s been a contestant the previous dozen plus. After every year he shaves his beard and saves it in that Jack Daniel‘s box. This is the real deal, folks.

Celebrity ‘Stache: Rollie Fingers!!!

What a month. First I run into Ferris Bueller’s “Cameron” Alan Ruck with a big ‘ol Lemmy ‘Stache. Then I got to meet my all-time Moustache Hero this last weekend, former Oakland A‘s pitcher Rollie Fingers. You know in all his career he never used performance-enhancing moustache fiber. Much respect.

Every year gentlemen far and near seek new ways to gain an edge in the great Petaluma Whiskerino beard and moustache contest. Some even turn to beard “Fibering.” A practice frowned upon by judges for reasons of ethics and risk. Watch what happens when I dabble in this forbidden-follicled art.

Beer: Dempsey’s Now Bottling Petaluma Strong Ale as PSA Extra IPA

Petaluma’s fortunate enough to not only have a terrific craft beer bar like TAPS, but also two breweries within a few miles of each other. Lagunitas of course, and the up-until-now Brewpub-only Dempsey’s.

The latter’s only 4 blocks from my house. Yet, just across the street from me is the Petaluma Whole Foods, where I stumbled across the freshly bottled first offerings from Dempsey’s Restaurant & Brewery. Surprise, surprise.
