Mister Heavenly<\/a>, the super-ish trio of Nick “Diamonds” Thorburn<\/strong> (The Unicorns<\/strong> \/ Islands<\/strong>), Honus Honus<\/strong> (Man Man<\/strong>), and Joe Plummer<\/strong> (Modest Mouse<\/strong>), played their third show last night. And yet again they were joined by Michael Cera<\/strong> on bass. Apparently he’s only playing with the band during their current tour opening for Passion Pit<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The show was surprisingly great. A surprise since, well, they haven’t released any tunes yet. It was only a few days ago Sub Pop announced their signing<\/a>. All I knew was their self-described sound as “Doom-wop<\/em>” (a combo of doo-wop and doomed love songs). After hearing ’em, that’s not too far off. And hot-damn, that Honus Honus<\/strong> has an amazingly raw ‘n throaty croon. Expect good things.<\/p>\n

No CDs for sale. But they did have these handsome shirts:<\/p>\n
