RIP: Yoda, World’s Ugliest Dog Champion
Our condolences to Terry Schumaker, whose beloved Yoda passed away last week at 15. Just last June, the 1.8 lb Chihuahua / Chinese Crested Mix won first place in Petaluma‘s World’s Ugliest Dog Contest. Even before that she was well-loved by her owner, Terry, who had found her abandoned behind an apartment building and took her in. Glad there’s big-hearted people like that to love the not-so-conventionally-cute creatures of the world.

Here’s what you missed at the annual World’s Ugliest Dog Contest at the Sonoma Marin Fair in Petaluma. If you’ve seen the awesome Worst In Show documentary you’ll recognize many of the ugly dogs (and their owners).
Contrary to their gnarly appearances all are healthy and super-loved by their owners.
Not just another quirky Petaluma event (they’ve got tons) it also serves as a great case for pet adoption. Every animal deserves a good home, “ugly” or conventionally cute.
KYEO: The Billboard That Made Me Rethink Eating Cats
This brings up a terrific question: Why don’t you eat cats?
Bacon comes from an animal half as cute. Shouldn’t cats be twice as delicious?
There’s even a festival devoted entirely to eating cats Festival Gastronomico del Gato every September in Peru. Alas, this is not an ad for said fest. Nor does the Starter Guide set you down the path to becoming a feline feast fancier. It’s actually some sort of meatless propaganda. Bummer. Now it’s got me rethinking other animals, too. Like a grilled Panda Cow or Poodle-Bison burger. Mmm.

I’ve always been creeped out by poodles and have only pet them reluctantly, out of guilt. I feel bad ‘cuz I’m sure they’re sweet and smart. But their ramen-like, yet semi-human, curly hair just gives me the willies. So imagine my shock and awe when I came across these photos taken by Ren Netherland. Shudder.
