This was all shot with a RED Epic-equipped gyrostabilized camera platform, The GSS C520. “A portable 5-axis system that houses a range of leading digital cinema cameras, like the Epic and Sony F55, while also capable of integrating future advancements in camera technology”. Whoa. Check out what else Teton Gravity Research is up to (no pun intended).
It’s one thing to Sharpie something on a sign. But to jump up and slap on a googly eye takes a certain craftiness that, frankly, impresses the hell out of me.
If you’re lucky enough to be in San Francisco this eve, you can snag these new dominos and see Jeremy Fish himself at the opening party in North Beach. I’ll be there in spirit with my Fish Stein, saying cheers from Petaluma.
I love how you can see the edge of the 16mm film flashing by.
Just dreamy.
Though I’ve been in SF for well over a decade, I lived in Vegas for years and would go there every summer while growing up in Chicago. To say I have a soft spot for the “old” Vegas would be like saying I just sorta-kinda like beer.
I’ve spent many years in San Franisco‘s Ad Ghetto (loosely based around the upper part of Battery St.) and even more in Grumpy’s. Longtime residents draftFCB and newcomers EVB have joined forces to celebrate the ‘hood and “bring some life” back to the area. They’ve scored The Dodos and Dan the Automator to help ’em do it. An effort I applaud, as it’s much needed.
The party hits at 4 pm on John Maher St, that little walkway running between Battery / Front and Union / Green [map].
It’s not often you find beers like Samichlaus on tap (the rare bottles are a Christmas tradition with me). Even more rare to find hand-doodled parodies gracing the pulls. Church Key in San Francisco‘s North Beach only has a few taps at a time but man does their artwork make up for their numbers. They put the hand in tap handles.

About the artist
I had to pull teeth out of the bartender as he was, unfortunately, not the most talkative or friendly. This is how I got to what I sorta believe to be the guy’s name:
ÜÜ: Did you draw these? They’re awesome. CK: No.
ÜÜ: Did someone else at Church Key draw them? CK: No.
ÜÜ: Do you know who did? CK: A local guy who comes in here.
ÜÜ: Happen to know his name? CK: Sean.
ÜÜ: Sean … ? CK: Sean Dick.
I couldn’t tell if that was the guy’s last name or the bartender just was being one. Making that my last beer at Church Key for the eve. However, I’ll go back and give ’em another chance. And bring a better camera. In the meantime enjoy these seven killer tap handles by Sean Dick(?) …
One of my absolute favorite beers sampled at the 2011 SF Beer Week Opening Gala was Almanac Brewing Co.‘s Summer 2010 ale. I can still taste it. Like a big, juicy slice of the season squeezed right into your glass. And now it’s finally being bottled.
Word is they’re having a bottle release party on June 30 at City Beer Store. Watch here for details.
SF Giants, Star Wars, and facial hair. Si, por favor.
I didn’t think the ¡Dia De Los Gigantes! Shirt could ever be topped. But this Fear The Jedi Beard (Kenobi) tee created by Jeff Fang may be the best yet.
UPDATE: Reprints have finally been made and you can place an order by sending an email to jeff@jefffang.com.
Gotta love the details:
Stay tuned for info on how—and if— you can get your mitts on one of ‘em, too. Thanks, Fang!
Good news. Whether you’ve already got tickets to the Lagunitas Beer Circus or not, you can now grab a plush but cheap ride from San Francisco & Mill Valleyto and from the event in Petaluma. Score!
You know why the Giants lost the season opener to (shudder) LA? You didn’t have this shirt.
Do the Bay a favor and head to one of my favorite Petaluma stores, Heebe Jeebe, to grab this killer shirt designed by John Hersey. If you can’t make the trek (stop cryin’, I do it every day) you can order by phone: 707 773 3222.
SF (spoiled) locals know duo The Ferocious Few as avant buskers who pop up and rock out anywhere from Market Street to Mission Street.
BSSP ad peep Scott McFadden (UPDATE: and crew of Eddie Ringer (director), Garrett Delorm, Darren Wong and Alex Rice) helped the band on a video and iPhone app that captures their all-over-the-place nature.
For their Loc’d Out vid Scott tells us, “…the projection idea came from the fact that they started performing with guerrilla performances around SF. We tried to keep this same vibe by projecting in sketchy places like city hall. It was pretty shady walking around with a projector and generator. We did get some heat but it didn’t stop us.”
The FEROCIOUS FEW POCKET ROCK-IT APP
The iPhone App lets you hold your own pop-up show. “Your front row ticket to a live Ferocious Few face-melting, regardless of how un-epic your current location may be. See the rest »
