Trippy couple of days. First multiplying sheep. Now bar graphs and pie charts exploding off the page into something like a Pink Floyd LP cover on peyote.
Created by design and live-action production company Süperfad and directed by Nando Costa,
this video “explores the connections between science, mathematics and music“. Music is by World Gang, a side-project of Modest Mouse‘s Jeremiah Green and Plastiq PhantomDarrin Wiener. Nando and Jeremiah have a previous relationship, as he shot Modest Mouse “Whale Song” video.
The unnecessarily umlauted Süperfad is on a roll as of late. Just the other day they released their HTML5 and WebGL -powered Global Traffic Visualizer. Check out the vid:
(yes, this is the best pic my crappy cam could capture)
Mister Heavenly, the super-ish trio of Nick “Diamonds” Thorburn (The Unicorns / Islands), Honus Honus (Man Man), and Joe Plummer (Modest Mouse), played their third show last night. And yet again they were joined by Michael Cera on bass. Apparently he’s only playing with the band during their current tour opening for Passion Pit.
The show was surprisingly great. A surprise since, well, they haven’t released any tunes yet. It was only a few days ago Sub Pop announced their signing. All I knew was their self-described sound as “Doom-wop” (a combo of doo-wop and doomed love songs). After hearing ’em, that’s not too far off. And hot-damn, that Honus Honus has an amazingly raw ‘n throaty croon. Expect good things.
No CDs for sale. But they did have these handsome shirts:
The above was just a regular ‘ole moonrise over some Sonoma vineyards. Tonight’s gonna be a doozy. For the entire northern hemisphere.
This evening’s Autumn Equinox brings the first Super Harvest Moon in 20 years; a rare combo of Summer setting on a full moon. It’ll make nearby Jupiter the second-brightest object in the sky. Step out, crack open some pumpkin beers, and turn up the tunes. Fall’s a-comin’.
