“I Am Pabst”- by Jacob White, Los Gatos, CA. Spotted off 7th Street, SF
For the past three years, Pabst Blue Ribbon has held an art contest where anyone can enter a PBR-flavored piece of Photography, Digital Media, Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, or Poetry. Check out the past year’s winners at PBRart.com .
Bughouse is a California couple that makes functional art like the Zeppelin-ended coffee table above, and even art-art like these Hi-Fi wall pieces. They use everything from photo transfers and vinyl wraps to recreate the look of vintage vinyl and accompanying ephemera. Cool idea. Check out the Bughouse site and see what else they do. “What Once Was” is a four-color screen print by the talented Dan McCarthy that may or may not be sold out by the time you read this. Check his site for info and more cool prints. Like this other glow-in-the-dark piece for Andrew Bird / Calexico poster. (via OMG Posters)
French pixel-artist, Invader created this Beatles & Clash-ified teaser for his July ’09 show at Jonathan LeVine gallery in NY. Check out Invader’s site. (via Visual Texture)
Anyone near Petaluma should swing up to Boomerang Gallery (inside Heebe Jeebe’s) for new works by the ever-awesome Timothy McSweeney and Cass Hersey. Showing through July 9th.
This is disgustingly awesome. Kittiwat Unarrom baked and sculped body-part shaped bread for a show in Ratchaburi, Thailand. Pretty damn gross, yes. But a very cool message:
“When people see the bread, they don’t want to eat it. But when they taste it, it’s just normal bread. The lesson is ‘don’t judge just by outer appearances.”
UPDATE: Winners posted. Jeff’s and Tyler’s got a nod. Congrats.
Here’s some entries from a couple Friends of The Umlaut for Gizmodo’s new photoshop contest. Good luck to Jeff’sPurple Segway, Tyler’sBluetooth Thriller & Wii Jam, and Davon’sGhost In The iMachine.
Oh my gawd. Oh my gawd. Oh my gawd. If only this thing was for sale. Scott sent me this car on BoingBoing and I had to see more. The artist is Elmer Presslee and he has a bevy of monsterful creations on his site. From paintings to furniture to … sit-in-the-brain kiddie cars.
Anyone near Philly the rest of this year needs to check out this exhibition and snap some pics for the Umlaut. Please. Have always loved the sailor/Americana tattoo art. This sounds incredible. More info at the Independence Seaport Museum.
