It’s that time of year again for the annual Bill Soberanes Memorial Petaluma Whiskerino facial hair contest… This year it’s at the Phoenix Theater with The Dixie Giants providing the music. Come cheer the beard!
“In traditional historian parlance: that’s when shit got real.”
Sure, this killer quote from the book is actually referring to when the Bay Area became “beer country”, it’s even more appropriate for tomorrow’s event—the long-awaited release party for the Northern California Craft Beer Guide book by Ken Weaver and Anneliese Schmidt, happening at See the rest »
Not many people know but the fine folks over at Lagunitas have built a killer outdoor venue nestled next to their Beer Sanctuary called the Laguminiamphitheaterette. Yes, that just rolls off the tongue. They’re doing a series of FREE(!) shows through the summer with some serious names lined up. Bluegrass legend Peter Rowan kick things off last Monday. This Monday Nicki Bluhm and The Gramblers are playing with Petaluma‘s favorite farm band, Arann Harris and The Farm Dogs. The place only holds a few hundred people, so you don’t wanna sleep on this.
For FREE tickets, get to the Lagunitas Schwag Shop first thing Wednesday before all the tickets are gone.
This year there’s 20 breweries (including the new Petaluma brewery HenHouse), four bands (including The Ferocious Few), and tons of circus carnage. It’s all this Sunday at Lagunitas in Petaluma. There’s even a Designated Driver discount.
PLUS … TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE LIVER
If five hours of beer, circus and music isn’t enough for you, Sunday is also going to be an Annular Eclipse. So you know things are gonna get trippy. Get tix now at www.LAGUNITAS.com.

“It’s only fitting that the egg capital of California host an exhibit exploring the beautiful, intricate structures that protect those delicate, little objects. NEST EGG is inspired by Petaluma’s heritage and brought to life by Petaluma’s artisans who are each given a hand carved wooden egg as their muse. Come down to HeebeJeebe to experience unexpected interpretations of the strength, whimsy, and ingenuity of the simple nest.“
It’s all put on by the creative, community-minded folks at PROJECT HERE. Peep a few examples here… See the rest »
Lagunitas‘ seasonal Lucky 13, which went from an Imperial Red to a Blonde, is still a couple weeks away but it’s my virtual drink of choice for this Friday the 13th. The watering hole of choice being See the rest »
Our condolences to Terry Schumaker, whose beloved Yoda passed away last week at 15. Just last June, the 1.8 lb Chihuahua / Chinese Crested Mix won first place in Petaluma‘s World’s Ugliest Dog Contest. Even before that she was well-loved by her owner, Terry, who had found her abandoned behind an apartment building and took her in. Glad there’s big-hearted people like that to love the not-so-conventionally-cute creatures of the world.
