MP3: Wye Oak side project Flock of Dimes, Ben Folds covers Ke$ha, Washed Out, Black Keys cover Buddy Holly, and Seapony :: Friday 05.06.11

Enjoy thoroughly.

This new track from Jenn Wasner of Wye Oak and her new side project Flock of Dimes almost makes up for the fact that Wye Oak is covering Dinosaur Jr on May 22nd—and it’s sold out.

Flock of Dimes (Jenn Wasner of Wye Oak) “Prison Bride”

The idea of Ben Folds covering Ke$ha may not sound like a good idea, but think about it. Anybody doing Ke$ha is better than her, right? This case especially.

Ben Folds “Sleazy” (Ke$ha)

You’re gonna love this new Washed Out until I lodge this in your head: Moby, Enya, and Caribou havin’ a baby. That is all.

Washed Out “Eyes Be Closed” from Within and Without

• •   • •

The Black Keys warm up to a fairly restrained take on Buddy Holly. The upcoming tribute LP includes My Morning Jacket, Jenny O., Lou Reed, Modest Mouse, She & Him, and more.

The Black Keys “Dearest” (Buddy Holly) from Rave On Buddy Holly

If you like your gals sun-drenched, sugar-coated, and covered in a light layer of fuzz (really, who doesn’t), Seapony is here.

Turn it up. Make it big. This thing’s beautiful.

This gorgeous light painted video took OH YEAH WOW and Darcy Pendergast over 6 months to create. The result is a perfect match for the sound of instrumental Aussies, All India Radio. Lovely. (via Laughing Squid)

Fredrik: Spin the New Album, Go for a Spin

What a great way to preview a new LP—following a little wolf from the forest wonderland into town. Beats starin’ down a static album cover any day (unless it’s Ween‘s Chocolate & Cheese, of course).

This dreamy trip perfectly captures the vibe of the album, too. Not as wintery as See the rest »

Beards Again: New MSTRKRFT Single

What starts as a dancy electro ditty, this new MSTRKRFT single quickly brings some serious rawk. Dueling guitars. Crashing cymbals. And sweet-ass double bass. Just as your sleeves tear off and mullet reaches your collar we’re back in the club. Wanting to trade your glowsticks for my fiber optic beard.

New Release: Santa Rosa’s That Ghost

Tomorrow (3.1.11) will see the fifth album from 21-year-old Ryan Thomas Schmale‘s project, That Ghost. You’ll remember the lonely wandering tune “To Like You” from a Friday Five many moons back.

That Ghost “To Like You” from Songs Out Here

Here’s another from the new LP. Still ambling. More wintery and wanting. Partially recorded in the estate of fellow Valley of The Moon resident, Jack London. If you’ve ever been there, this really reflects the feel of the place. Especially London’s Wolf House ruins. In such a good way. Look for it in stores or snag it straight from Two Syllable Records.
