NEXT WEEKEND / JUNE 19th & 20th (IT’S FREE!!!)
If you are anywhere near the San Francisco Yay Area do not miss the Northern California Pirate Festival. We’ve gone all three years and have always had a blast. They turn the Vallejo waterfront into a whole pirate village with plenty of eye candy (see above), games for kids, bands, Lagunitas beer, and food. So awesome. More info.

We had the pleasure of meeting Patrick Watson at Cafe Du Nord last week, almost a year to the day after we last saw him there before. He and his band, The Wooden Arms, played yet another technically and emotionally impressive set. Plus, they not only brought back the Stupid Suit (with added lights!) they debuted a new track: Sit Down Beside Me.
Hear a live version remastered by a talented fan from the Watsonia fansite:

After some server shizzery, the Ümlaut‘s back. With some-tunes old and some-tunes new …
French duo The Dø (say ‘dough’) finally got their 2008 breakout A Mouthful issued stateside. With the track’s sassy-girl vocals and all its hand-clappery, I dare you not to shimmy. Death Vessel has one of the prettiest female voices I’ve ever heard from a dude. Yes, a dude. And it’s a song from five years ago. So if you haven’t already, seek out more of their tunes. This new Club 8 is almost as afro-infectious as the track posted in Feb. Fellow Swede (by way of Argentina) José González and his on-again off-again trio Junip is offering a free EP just for joining their mailing list. Not bad. The set finishes out with an aching little ditty from Norwegian Ane Brun circa 2002.
