Kick the weekend off with some old rawk and some new, including some from The Ferocious Few who I’ve seen busking on many of San Francisco’s Islands. You’ll need to crank this …
Some tasty new tracks to tune in for (from LPs to look out for). Plus, some old Neutral Milk Hotel … After I read how Jeff Mangum just performed live for the first time in 10 years, I dipped into the archives for a live tune from a San Francisco show 14 years ago. Enjoy.
When you drink this in your egg-shaped chair with built-in speakers, rocking out to my Moog Mix below, take additional comfort in knowing proceeds will support the Foundation’s interactive educational programs to teach science through music—as well as the eventual creation of a Moogseum. Yes, a Moogseum. Full story at Craft Beer News »
Here’s what’s been whirring around the Ümlaut this week. The Peter Wolf Crier track’s seriously been on repeat. And the Port O’Brien tune, a sweet live session from last year, felt like the perfect way to follow up the folksy wonder of Bill Fox. Enjoy.
Patrick Daughters, who directed the Grizzly Bear‘s crazily-eyed Two Weeks video, handled this spot for Washington’s Lottery. Their second commercial appearance since VW PunchDub.
Although the effects merit repeat viewings, there’s something off about the editing of the music and visuals. Sure, they’re both gorgeous. They’re just not so great in bed together. (via Stereogum)
BEST USE OF INDIE MUSIC IN A COMMERCIAL DREAM:
Karen O x Squeak E. Clean‘s “Hello Tomorrow” for Adidas / Spike Jonze. Dreamy indeed.
Caught Sean Hayes at the Mystic on Sunday. The guy’s got such a great voice. Especially live. If you haven’t grabbed his new LP grab it now. So, so, so good. The other four tracks below are new ones that’ve popped up this week, begging for a sunny weekend. If you have one, enjoy the fork out of it.
All set? The first tune from SF’s Grass Widow is kinda like my week—or year, for that matter—sweet spots punctuated by moments of full-on freakouts. Next is some raw ‘n fun rawk from Harlem (thanks for the tip, Sergio). Then ex-frontman for an SF band I listened to when living in Cole Valley, Beulah. The new Banksy movie trailer turned me on to this Richard Hawley track. Wrapping it up is Shiryu’s Tron Legacy Remix. Hot shit. Hop on a bike and go light shite up!
“This drawing was inspired by musician Arann Harris of The Green String Farm Band. He came up with the concept and I brought the idea to life. It is a futuristic interpretation of a growth hormone experiment gone bad on the downtown streets (of my hometown) of Petaluma, California, once known as the “Chicken Capital of the World“.”
Satchmo possessed by Death Metal Rooster? Pretty much. And pretty damn awesome.
I still laugh out loud at all the Creed Shreds vids. They’ve got the extra layer of commentary that’s oh so tasty. Check out this one, too. (Thanks, Dylan!)
Richard Buckner‘s acoustic take on Town that practically broke my heart. The new Frank Black, er, Black Francis searing, road-worthy tune I’d love to crank somewhere between SF and LA. And back. Will Oldham, er, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy gone house-tastic on Hot Chip‘s I Feel Better. Plus, the damn Star Wars / Jay-Z parody I cannot get out of my head. So now I’ll get it stuck in yours. Enjoy.
So nerdy. Yet so freakin’ awesome. Oh, and I want Princess Leia’s removable buns! That sounds bad. You just gotta watch and check out the lyrics. (Thanks, Fang!)
Two trips to LA in two days. Between ’em, I managed to hear these five new tracks from upcoming LPs I am thoroughly stoked on. Well, one isn’t new. It’s just live. Whatever. I’m tired. Enjoy.
