After seeing The Black Hole artwork in the Tron Comic-Con trailer I couldn’t help but pull this up …
I remember watching this as a kid in the Boulder City Theater (just outside Vegas), the same theater my great-grandfather helped build and later died in. No, not drawing any Flynn / Arcade connections. Just random backstory.
Anyway, the cameo’s no coincidence. Tron Legacy director Joseph Kosinski is signed on to remake The Black Hole. Why, I don’t know.
The Tron Legacy soundtrack is getting released a month before the flick itself: November 23.
Hear snippets of six of the Daft Punk songs at this radio station’s site. They’re dark, dramatic, and bass-y in all the right ways. Though not as immediately rocking as the incredible Tron Shiryu Remix (love it!!).
NEW TRON LEGACY TRAILER FROM COMIC-CON 2010
More backstory. More arcade. More blue lines and lightbike-y awesomeness. More reasons to screw patience and cryogenically freeze yourself until December 17. [via Electronic Rumors]
Didn’t believe the last Machete trailer? The movie’s for real. And coming to kick your ass September 3rd. With everyone from Robert De Niro and Lindsay Lohan, to some hot twins, a luchador, and even Steven Seagal. Yes. Yes. Yes. (via Screening Log)
I put Sofia Coppola right up there with Wes Anderson and Scorsese in terms of making spot-on soundtrack choices. Somewhere, her latest, is set to feature a ton of Phoenix tunes. But it’s the use of the old Julian Casablancas demo I’ll Try Anything Once (which later became The Strokes‘ You Only Live Once) that’s got me hearing it in a whole new way.
I’m not a big fan of _____ baby videos. Especially the dancing baby commercials. They just bug. But Iron Baby is in a class of her own. French-Canadian autodidact director Patrick Boivin created this parody with his daughter. Her Uncle STROB created the suit. Impressive performance by all three. (via Giz)
The O.G. Warriors “colors” patch used in the 1979 Walter Hill classic is up for auction on eBay. Supposedly from the film’s Prop Master. Only three days left. Too bad it’s $75. Check it out.
Can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched The Warriors. But I can tell you I’ve watched it twice in French.
UPDATE: WARRIORS REMAKE
Unfortunately, the remake is still a go. The latest is that Tony Scott is directing for MTV Films, only it’s going to be set in LA instead of NYC. IMDB says 2011. We’ll see.
Remember the fake Machete trailer in Planet Terror? Well, now there’s a real one …
This is the “Illegal Machete Trailer” with a special Cinco De Mayo message from Danny Trejo.
While a lot stays true to the original-fake trailer, Robert Rodriguez has packed in even more badassery and an onslaught of familiar faces—from Robert De Niro to Lindsay Lohan to Don freakin’ Johnson. (via Ain’t It Cool News)
UPDATE:
Nice black and white tribute to Danny Trejo by The Chumbeques. (Thanks, Mike!)
The trailer for Beardo The Movie features several shots of two-time Petaluma Whiskerino champion, Jack Passion. Including a water shot … What the hell?!
Pretty and pretty depressing all at the same time.
The only direction Absolut Vodka gave Spike Jonze was to make something important to him. So he made a love story about two robots living in Los Angeles. The 30-minute short gets global release in March.
YES! I don’t care how cheesy the music is, I am so stoked for this. Wonder if Bubo the little mechanical owl will make an appearance? It could easily go into Jar Jar territory if not done right.
BONUS: The original Clash Of The Titans trailer from 1981
This lil’ gem rocked the festivals in ’06. The theaters in ’08. Now, finally, your DVD player.
The story of a manchild in need of just bein’ a man stars Matt McGrath, Judah Friedlander (sans trucker hat), Deborah Harry, and Alan Cumming. Director David Munro is the talented fella who just shot our Geek Speak video for Yahoo!.
