Not a big fan of the Green Heiny but this Men With Talent spot from TBWA Amsterdam cracks me up. If I don’t or won’t ever care about the product, that’s all I ask for. A laugh. Even a chuckle. Please. (Thanks, Wardinger)

Hot on the heels of news that Anchor has been sold to a Novato company, they’ve announced their first new seasonal in 5 years: Humming Ale.
Here’s the question: Why did Anchor make this announcement?
A) The oh-so-rare Nelson Sauvin hops in Humming Ale are oh-so-good.
B) They’re trying to squelch the usual big-company-buys-microbrewery-and-microbrewery-stops-putting-out-interesting-small-batch-beer expectations.
I’m guessing a little from column A, a little from column B. Either way, I’m excited. I was lucky enough to try Humming at TAPS Petaluma last November. It’s a wonderfully light, sessionable beer. But not “new” by any means. Just “new to bottles”.

So pathetic, it’s impressive. Someone needs to do a Techno Viking remix of this. Pronto. (Thanks, Mel)
SAME DUDE?
Hang in there. Especially if you’ve seen the original vid. This Tragedy Remix Requiem soundtrack is seriously brilliant. I’m sure Jeff Goldblum would attest.

Love the idea for this flyer promoting the fifth annual Pitchfork/Windish Austin Party. Not stoked on the execution.
Why not have Austin’s Neon Indian on a Shiner label? And why put LA’s Local Natives on a Brooklyn Brewery label? Lazy if you ask me. But I’ll give ’em props for the Washed Out / Coors Light pairing. That’s almost Wacky Packs material.

Drama in the fight for the World’s Strongest Beer!
The video’s funny, for sure. But calling their German competitors “Sausage Munchers”? It’s a play right out of Monty C. Burns’ battle book. And I can’t wait to see what happens next
Monty Burns “Ooh, The Germans” from The Simpsons
Quick recap: Shortly after Scotland’s BrewDog announced the whopping 32% ABV Tactical Nuclear Penguin with this fun and drunk penguin-laden video, Germany’s Schorschbrau dropped a big “Nein! ” bomb with a crushing 40% brew. BrewDog‘s responded with an even funnier video for an even bigger beer, 41% ABV Sink The Bismark!. Patience, Schorschbrau. Climb the ladder.

All week, Humphry Slocombe is releasing different beer ice cream concoctions daily in honor of SF Beer Week. If you’re familiar their amazing ice cream alchemy, you know how talented they are at bringing together interesting (and disparate) ingredients to create Wonka-like wonders.
Lagunitas Hop Stoopid + Bacon Ice Cream
With the hoppy green flavors and smoky, salty bacon you could easily call this Weed + Bacon Ice Cream and I’d believe you. But I think I’ve figured out what really went into this:

I really appreciate how Old Thunderpussy and Hairy Eyeball are on top of each other. Just sayin’.
Menu changes daily (and this was yesterday’s). So hurry down. Daily.
Participating Breweries: Dogfish Head, Speakeasy, Bison, Fifty Fifty, Valley Brew, Triple Rock, Drakes, Shmaltz, Magnolia , 21A, Firestone Walker, Beach Chalet, Thirsty Bear, Lagunitas, Uncommon Brewers, Blue Frog, Trumer, Shiner, Bridgeport, Moonlight, Iron Springs, Eel River, Bear Republic, Sierra Nevada

Big thanks to Mario at Brewed For Thought for hookin’ up the Ümlaut at Beer Network’s Winter Brews Fest last Saturday.
I finally got to try Uncommon Brewers Bacon Beer. It was tangy, malty sweet, and even a little slick (pork fat, perhaps?). But not as bacon-y as I was dreaming for. Surprisingly subtle in the bacon dept., actually. I met the brewer, Alec, who gave official confirmation there is actual pork inside this brew—not the pork pictured above, that was Lagunitas Brown Shugga -injected Hog from Sean Paxton The Homebrew Chef.

Moonlight Brewing Burn Toast Ale smelled and tasted exactly that, but in a good way. Such a good way.

Jeremy Marshal and Tony Magee of Lagunitas tune things up.

Winner of Petaluma Whiskerino “Best Combo Beard/’Stache”, Shawn Spreng, holding a glass of Firehouse Grill Imperial Red Ale. One of my favorites of the afternoon. Right up there with Valley Brewing Decadent Darkness and Odonata Rosa (one of two sours I’ve ever wanted to have more of).
Petaluma represent! Fred flanked by Jeremy and Tony.

Is Upcycling the new Reclaiming? Or Repurposing? Whatever. Drink your way to a recycled liver with BottleHood beer tumblers.
Made from recycled bottles, there’s eight different tumblers from Stone Brewing and a couple randoms, including the classic Dad’s Root Beer bottle. Love that logo.
