Art Opening: The Beer Show 8/26

Yes, craft beer is an art to itself. But when you mix craft beer with the art of artists, well, you’ve got The Beer Show. This group exhibit includes drawings, glass art, clothing, jewelery and crafts all made from or inspired by beer, bottle caps and coasters.

Vintage Vegas: Moustache Cup from Caesars Palace

Nowadays a ‘Moustache Cup’ would have a curly handlebar printed on the edge so drinkers look like they’ve got a dastardly ‘stache

But this is not your hipster’s coffee cup …

See the bit of moustache wax under “Las“? That’s the real deal, folks.

Moustache Cups had a protective strainer built-in so your ‘stache wouldn’t get soaked   See the rest »

Beer Art: 7 Hilarious Hand-Drawn Taps at Church Key SF

Like the Wacky Packs of beer

It’s not often you find beers like Samichlaus on tap (the rare bottles are a Christmas tradition with me). Even more rare to find hand-doodled parodies gracing the pulls. Church Key in San Francisco‘s North Beach only has a few taps at a time but man does their artwork make up for their numbers. They put the hand in tap handles.

About the artist

I had to pull teeth out of the bartender as he was, unfortunately, not the most talkative or friendly. This is how I got to what I sorta believe to be the guy’s name:

ÜÜ: Did you draw these? They’re awesome.
CK: No.

ÜÜ: Did someone else at Church Key draw them?
CK: No.

ÜÜ: Do you know who did?
CK: A local guy who comes in here.

ÜÜ: Happen to know his name?
CK: Sean.

ÜÜ: Sean … ?
CK: Sean Dick.

I couldn’t tell if that was the guy’s last name or the bartender just was being one. Making that my last beer at Church Key for the eve. However, I’ll go back and give ’em another chance. And bring a better camera. In the meantime enjoy these seven killer tap handles by Sean Dick(?) …

Look & Listen: New Jeremy Fish Show w/ Stories from Snoop Dogg, Mike Giant, more

Stereoscopic Art Immersion

While all of Jeremy Fish’s work is steeped in storytelling, for his newest show he’s actually letting you hear the story behind the work—while you look at the work.

Opening June 21 at Joshua Liner Gallery, each piece will be accompanied by headphones playing their respective stories, straight from the storyteller’s mouths—Snoop Dogg, Mike Giant, Lance Mountain, Mars-1, the Dandy WarholsCourtney Taylor, and more.

Süperfad x Nando Costa: Tactile Waveforms Video

Trippy couple of days. First multiplying sheep. Now bar graphs and pie charts exploding off the page into something like a Pink Floyd LP cover on peyote.

Created by design and live-action  production company Süperfad and directed by Nando Costa,
this video “explores the connections between science, mathematics and music“. Music is by World Gang, a side-project of Modest Mouse‘s Jeremiah Green and Plastiq Phantom Darrin Wiener. Nando and Jeremiah have a previous relationship, as he shot Modest Mouse “Whale Song” video.

The unnecessarily umlauted Süperfad is on a roll as of late. Just the other day they released their HTML5 and WebGL -powered Global Traffic Visualizer. Check out the vid:
